I am Professor of Philosophy at Boğaziçi University. My research is in metaphysics, with a focus on the ontology of artifacts and artworks, artifact kinds, and social ontology. I examine questions concerning essentialism about kinds, the identity and persistence conditions of artifactual kinds, and the roles of intention and function in determining kind membership.

I also work on abstract artifacts such as software and words, situating them within a broader ontological framework, and I investigate the challenges that generative AI raises for traditional accounts of authorship.
